Coma Cinema: VHS White Trash (Drunk Version)

Posted on: June 4th, 2012 by Matt Gilles

Mat Cothran is back, this time readying the fourth Coma Cinema LP, School Shootings. “White Trash VHS (Drunk Version)” is a warm easy rider that circles in and about Mat’s inner essence, channelling sordid demons and distant hope just the same. While it is casually described on Cothran’s blog as “just a demo,” it is as addictive and as perfect as any Coma Cinema work, and per usual, I can’t stop listening to it repeatedly.

Elvis Depressedly: “Mickey Yr A Fuck Up”

Posted on: October 5th, 2011 by Matt Gilles

“Heaven has a void. I know you’re not like all the other boys”

Elvis Depressedly describes a hidden side of  Mat Cothran- one plagued by its secrecy and glowing with its inner intention. “Mickey Yr A Fuck Up” feels more meditative and reflective than the work of Cothran‘s other projects (Coma Cinema, Teen Porn); it feels like it comes from a different place. His voice wavers delicately above intimate tape hiss, as he admits his most sullen realizations to an internal audience. Simple release.

After all my time floating around the blogosphere, very few artists keep me as addicted to their work as Mat Cothran. Goner, the 2nd Elvis Depressedly release thus far, is definitely a repeater worth checking out.

Teen Porn: “Twist N’ Shout”

Posted on: August 13th, 2011 by Matt Gilles

Gnashing a gnarly wad of sour bubble gum pop with your crooked teeth. With a crooked smile.

Teen Porn is Rachel Levy (Kiss Kiss Fantastic, Kitteh Fur) and Mat Cothran (Coma Cinema), who stretch their digital limbs across an entire country to warp bright melodies into occult robitussin-laced hymns. Rachel Levy’s voice is enchanting and alluring, revealing itself and burying itself in a pool of noisy distortion, pulsating and bubbling. It’s well-worth the addiction.

“Twist ‘N Shout” is free at the Teen Porn bandcamp. It’s their first single off of their debut LP, Way Out, which will probably come to light by the end of the year.

Backseat Dreamer: “Consider (Coma Cinema Remix)”

Posted on: April 12th, 2011 by Tom Auty

Sean Neuse, under the monicker Backseat Dreamer, releases music that skillfully merges modern ambient with serene pop. His song, “Consider” was released on his debut release, The Colors Of Dreams, They’re In You. Coma Cinema recently did a remix of it, and it brings out the song’s club potential without drowning out the subtleties.
