I’m really into this EP from Australian artist Major Napier. I don’t really know a whole not about him, but here’s something that I Googled:
Major Napier is Johnny Ross, a 21 year old business student from Melbourne. ‘I haven’t had any training and am only trying to recreate the feelings I get from music.’
Word.
It’s raw both sonically and emotionally (sounds like a MacBook mic was used at various times) and filled with some great moments you’d only hear from a self-proclaimed untrained musician/songwriter/whatever. It has its dark moments and its swirling explorations of the subconscious mind – check the great intro track “Roman Soldiers Pt 1″. I love the drifting and prominent background vocal harmonies and the heartfelt lead vocal hook in “Crowning Observation”. If you check out the album, the last track is auto-tuned Kanye style, but it works well for this lo-fi bedroom vibe. I hope to hear more from this dude in the future – certainly glad I stumbled upon this release. Download it for free on his Bandcamp and like his Facebook page.
